I woke up on Sunday to the sound of trumpets playing at the near by armory, It was a peaceful yet saddened reminder of what that day now stands for.
10 years ago I woke up and went to the bathroom to get ready for school. Even though I was only a sophomore when I turned on my radio and heard that a plane had just crashed into the WTC, I knew what that meant. I stood in shock listening and the more they spoke the less I believed. When I realized it was real, I fell to the floor and cried. I forced myself to get out the door and had the radio on in the car, I remember my friend trying to change the station saying "why do I care whats happening in NY" and I remember telling her this was going to effect more then just the city of NY!
As I sat on the cold hardwood floor in my dance class we all watched in horror as we witnessed people jumping from the buildings, then the first tower fell, there was a girl sitting next to me and I don't remember her name but I remember she had really curly hair and she yelled out and then broke down sobbing. I don't think there was one person in the room that didn't have tears streaming down their face and I'll never forget when the second tower came down the chaos of trying to figure out if they were replaying the first tower falling or if the second tower really had just crumbled. The day seemed to move in slow motion and a few hours later I just couldn't take it anymore. I left school early, and drove home in the rain. I curled up on the couch and cried the rest of the afternoon as I watched the news.
Some of us were to young to grasp the reality, some of us just not mature enough to realize the importance.
I spent most of my Sunday morning watching the live events in NY and as the names were read of the loved ones lost, again I sat and cried. For each of us its a different memory, but it has changed all of our lives forever!
It is amazing to see strangers comforting strangers, and I am proud every day of my life to be able to call my self an American.
To all the lives taken to soon that day, and the men and woman who have lost their lives serving our country may God be with you till we meet again.
